Up in the beautiful Lugu Lake in southwest China,
2,700 metres above sea level is the place where Mosuo tribe, one of the
last matriarchal societies in the world, inhabits. There, women make
most major decisions, have the rightful ownership of land and houses,
and full rights to the children they gave birth.
The most unique custom of Mosou people is their walking marriage.
Female may take as many lovers as they are pleased over their lifetime.
Instead of getting marriage and having husband, they have male
companions instead.
Italian photographer – Luca Locatelli,
spent over a month documenting their lives to bring us the exceptional
series about the life at “Kingdom of Women”.

their own.
